In May of 1967, Augustine “Augie” Calfo and Donald “Slim” Haight decided to go into business and built Calfo & Haight, Inc.  At that time there were three employess, Augie, Slim, & Gerry Calfo (Augie’s wife).  Gerry handled the phones and the books. As the work increased, so did the number of employees.  Eventually, Augie’s children grew up and two of them became part of the company, Nick and Dawn.  Augie’s oldest grandson also became a plumber and joined the business.

The company started with a focus on plumbing and hot water heat (boilers, etc).  By the early 1970’s we added HVAC services to take the business in a new direction.  We became a one stop shop for our customer’s plumbing and HVAC needs!  Over the years we changed our focus from tract housing to only custom homes.  Our service and repair work hasn’t changed, however.  We provide service where it is needed.  We also do light commercial work (strip malls, stores, day cares, etc.)

We are known for our honesty and friendliness with customers.  We are very proud of the fact that we still have some of the same customers from 1967.

Augie and Slim have both passed on, but Nick, Gerry, and Dawn keep the legacy going.  We have long-time plumbing and HVAC technicians doing the outside work.  All of our employees are treated as family, that’s why they stay so long.

As part of our commitment to the local community we participate in the Apprenticeship Program with Plumbing Heating, Cooling Contractors Association and work with Habitat for Humanity, installing the plumbing in new bathrooms and kitchen, and also do any repair work needed.

Gerry is also on the Advisory Committee at the many Vo-Tech Schools in the local area: Delcastle, Hogdson, Howard, and St. Georges.   We are very involved in making sure the schools give students the proper training to prepare them for their careers.
